Arnold Palmer’s magnificent golf performance record, magnetic personality and unfailing sense of kindness have endeared him to millions of people throughout the world. When Recess was asked to help build out a campaign and website in preparation for Mr. Palmer’s passing, we were honored to help the organization and Mr. Palmer’s family pay tribute to the man know as the “The King.” 

The Challenge

Design and build a socially enacted web experience that lets the world pay tribute to Mr. Palmer’s legacy and becomes a living memorial of a true pioneer of the sport.

Create a cross-platform website that syncs up with third party content, user submitted stories and social posts to become a ubiquitous experience across all Arnold Palmer web properties. 

The Solution

The Solution

The experience allows users to share their personal Arnold Palmer stories and their condolences via social media. This “social wall” created a unique perspective of the life of a legend by combining tributes from celebs like Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake and remarks by everyday fans. The end result adds up a digital guest book full of the people’s history of Arnold Palmer. 

Working with the Golf Channel and NBC, Recess spearheaded a social strategy that connected all the disparate content, from the social media tributes down to the live tweets during the memorial. The campaign helped gather over 1,500 unique stories; millions of social media impressions and, most importantly, helped to raise over $100,000 for Arnie’s Army charities – all in the course of a few days.
