Having grown up in Cleveland, I’ve always had that stereotypical Ohioan pride, even though the internet hasn’t always understood. So after finding my way to Syracuse University in upstate New York, I knew I wanted to come back home to Cleveland to work for the summer.
That single decision is what led me to Recess Creative.
Why Recess Creative?
First off, I was enthusiastic about working at an agency that’s working to grow Cleveland’s creative landscape while helping local organizations make the most of their valuable marketing budgets.
As a Marketing and PR intern at Recess, I spent the summer of 2025 immersed in the day-to-day activities of a true creative agency from day one. I had the exciting opportunity to grow both professionally and personally while working alongside a talented team dedicated to making Cleveland an even better place to call “home.”
What’d you get to work on?
From conducting research on client competitors and trends, to informing campaign planning and client-facing materials, all while building and maintaining monthly external newsletters in HubSpot.
What stood out to me was not only the work, but also the team. Everyone was genuinely invested in my experience and granted me the space to explore my interests.
In three months, I was able to research marketing tactics leveraged by breweries across Ohio, film behind-the-scenes content, support a restaurant photoshoot, craft memes for social media, and compile a master list of local “foodie” influencers.
What was your favorite part?
What I loved most was the chance to work on a wide variety of clients and projects while building on my passion for storytelling.
The summer was a powerful blend of learning, hands-on experience, and relationship-building, and I am grateful to have remained a (mostly remote) Marketing and PR intern at Recess throughout my senior year at Syracuse University.
